Lots and lots of Evan.
I was going to spam the living daylights out of this place yesterday in honor of Evan but instead decided to cram it all into a slideshow with muzak. I think in terms of waiting around for this guy I’ve gone full-on Miss Havisham.  If the reference escapes you, see the Charles Dickens section of your local library and weep for me.

I’ve concluded that half of my followers on Tumblr are porn sites… and I’m okay with that.  Also, I seem to get more followers on Twitter when I’m not tweeting anything.  Duly noted.

I love you, but...
…a few reasons why my Grand Prix men’s season was an anticlimactic suckfest. PATRICK CHAN – I’m not gonna lie, here.  I’m getting sick of watching you faceplant, assplant, trip, stumble, flail and slam yourself into the boards only to cruise through the season in a protective bubble of stratospheric PCS.  Even worse is reading your whining about being underappreciated.  You opened...

Evan will obviously autograph anything.
Anything… And apparently sometimes forgets which sport he belongs to… But that’s okay, you and I are here to remind him…  “Put them on your feet, sweetie.”  “No, your feet.  Put them on your feet.”   ::headdesk::

That took forever and a day...
GP widgets finally updated.  It should have taken half an hour but I’m on someone else’s computer and it’s like trying to race the Daytona 500 in a ‘72 Plymouth station wagon.  To be perfectly honest it’s a miracle anything is getting done at all around here.  My days have been nothing but…   WHY!?!!!  plus me —->   plus My primary food group...

Back online yay!
OMFG Tumblr how I have neglected thee.  First order of business: update the GP widgets.  Then post-while-drinking about the misery of being an Evan Lysacek fan this season.  Then make unnecessary and unsupportive comments about Jeremy Abbott at COR.  Then firehose everyone’s dashboards with photos of Evan. Then compliment Hanyu on his first GP victory and Fernandez on his amazing breakout...

But in all seriousness...
This is criminally hot. My colleagues at work wonder why I dig men’s figure skating to the max.  How can I not when they wear head-to-toe black spandex onesies festooned with blingy bling?

Skate America: Men's Event Freeskate: Second Group
…and it only got sadder. There’s not much point in breaking this down other than to say that everyone stumbled: Dornbush: 132.24 / 202.27 Murakami: 122.65 / 193.32 Kozuka: 141.40 / 212.09 KVDP: 142.39 / 212.48 Brezina:  136.92 / 216.00 So Brezina wins with 216 points.  That’s right, the gold medal at Skate America was worth 216 points this year.  Happy to see Kevin van...

Skate America: Men's Event Freeskate: First Group
Samuel Contesti enjoyed a bit of redemption with a much better program than he had last night.  A couple of small errors but overall well done: 134.68   /  190.20 Doug Razzano up next in a black and plum-colored amazeballs costume.  Great performance.  He really went for it. 132.26 / 192.95  Annnnd Florent Amodio followed that with his jungle book / ultra lounge routine.  Tripled a planned quad...

Skate America: Short Dance II
Kharis Ralph and Asher Hill opened second ice dance group with a really fun performance; nice lifts, great speed.  They both look fantastic in their costumes, except she has some sort of headpiece that isn’t really necessary. Headpiece deduction.  52.68 Nelli Zhiganshina and Alexander Gazsi followed with Desperados.  Very strong.  Their coach is stoked.  55.66 Natalie Pechalat and Fabian...

Skate America: Short Dance
Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donahue kicked off the short dance with 49.71.  What is it with animal prints this season? #Florent   ——  I predict we’ll see more.  Isabella Cannuscio and Ian Lorello came next - Ian stumbled on a twizzle.  Twizzle stumbles make panda sad :-( 42.05 Isabella Tobias and Deividas Stagniūnas performed to a Shakira medley.  You know you’re watching...

Skate America: Men's Event III
Taka just underrotated and fell on a 4T and put a hand down on the 3A.  70.69  So much for my prediction that he would walk away with it.  Brezina really has a nice lead for himself there, topping 79.  The next four are all hovering around 70.  Tomorrow’s going to be interesting.  ~R

Skate America: Men's Event II
Ouch for Contesti: 55.52 for 8 out of 8.  Brezina killed it.  The height on his jumps and death drop is just fantastic.  He also gets bonus points from me for his coach’s fuscia glasses.  79.08 puts him in first place by almost 9 points.

Skate America: Men's Event
So the first group of men has skated and Murakami is in the lead with 70.67 points.  Florent looked like he caught his toepick on a lutz combo and wasn’t able to complete it, so he’s in 6th with 3 to skate.  Kevin VDP did pretty good 70.09, pushing Dornbush to 3rd with Contesti, Brezina and Kozuka to go…  The stands are sparse but the sequins are not.  God, Florent is killing...

Skate America Countdown: It's FINALLY Here!

The Oracle: Grand Prix Predictions, Vol II: Skate...
Behold our predictions for the ladies event at Skate America.  Once again, these are based not only on prior performance, but on intangibles such as momentum and gumption.  (Skaters are listed alphabetically. ISU standings are current as of 10/15.) To sum up: This one is a battle between Czisny and Kostner, and while Alissa has home-ice advantage, Carolina comes to the event with more momentum...

Skate America Countdown: Six Days to Go!
Wow, less than a week until the senior Grand Prix season gets rolling.  In light of Evan’s withdrawal from the GP, we’ve festooned the Skate America widget with marvelous Takahiko, who - barring a complete meltdown - should walk away with the title.  Best of luck to Evan’s alternate, Doug Razzano!  We’re sure he’ll skate lights out :-) Re Evan: we’ll have more...
